between the boundless range of colors in the natural world keeps me in a perpetual state of wonder. Making jewelry is one of the ways that I express this delight.
Primarily self-taught, I work with fine gauge wire of silver and gold, weaving bezels to encircle semi-precious stones: jade, lapis lazuli, garnet, carnelian, Peruvian opal, aquamarine and many others. I work with hammer, steel, and fire to forge handmade chain and the larger pieces. Favoring asymmetry in many of the necklace designs, I enjoy playing with finding the balance amongst the contrasting textures, shapes, colors, and weights of the stones.
Sylvae Handmade Jewelry is a single artist company; all pieces are conceived and executed by me. I work from my home studio under the watchful eyes of my dog, Georgie, to the tune of the six chickens in the yard, amidst the exuberant energy of my 11 year old son, creating well-crafted pieces which bridge the gap between casual, daily wear, and special occasions.
